A student researcher currently working on the development of a DNA barcoding based identification protocol in collaboration with the Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA) to aid in the fight against invasive aquatic plants in South Africa. With a keen interest in conservation biology and the preservation of indigenous ethnobotanical knowledge, I strive to learn as much as possible so that I may contribute towards these passions and the scientific community as a whole in a meaningful way.

Key Achievements

  • 2017: UJ academic merit bursary holder for Masters studies
  • 2016: Was awarded an NRF free standing bursary for Honours studies
  • 2016: Obtained BSc. Honours degree in Botany and Plant Biotechnology with distinction (cum laude)
  • 2010: Obtained a National Senior Certificate with distinctions in Afrikaans Home Language, English First Additional Language, Geography, Mathematics, Life Sciences and Life Orientation.
